acetaminophen

Brand and Other Names: TYLENOL
Mechanism of Action:
Indications:

This product is intended to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains associated with:

  • Headache
  • Backache
  • The common cold
  • Minor arthritis pain
  • Toothache
  • Muscular aches
  • Premenstrual and menstrual cramps

Also used to temporarily reduce fever.

Route: oral
Dose:

Adults and children 12 years and over:

  • Take 2 caplets every 6 hours

  • Do not exceed 6 caplets in 24 hours

  • Do not use longer than 10 days unless directed

Children under 12 years: Ask a doctor

Do Not Use If:

  • You are allergic to acetaminophen or any inactive ingredients
  • You are using other drugs containing acetaminophen

Ask a Doctor Before Use If:

  • You have liver disease
  • You take warfarin (blood thinner)
Warnings and Precautions:

Liver Warning

Severe liver damage may occur if:

  • More than 4,000 mg in 24 hours is taken

  • Used with other acetaminophen-containing products

  • Taken with 3+ alcoholic drinks daily

Allergy Alert

May cause severe skin reactions (e.g., skin reddening, blisters, rash). Discontinue and seek medical help if symptoms occur.
