Etoposide

Brand and Other Names: Etoposide
Mechanism of Action:

Etoposide acts mainly at the G2 phase of the cell cycle, inhibiting cells from entering mitosis. It induces DNA strand breaks via interaction with topoisomerase II.

Indications:

Indicated for th treatment of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) in combination with other chemotherapeutics as first-line therapy.

Route: oral
Dose:

Typically twice the IV dose, rounded to the nearest 50 mg.

Adverse Reactions:
  • Leukopenia
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Anemia
  • Nausea/Vomiting
  • Alopecia
  • Hypotension (IV only)
  • Allergic Reactions
Contraindication:

Etoposide capsules are contraindicated in patients who have demonstrated a previous hypersensitivity to etoposide or any component of the formulation.
