Cimetidine

Mechanism of Action:
Indications:
relieves heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach
prevents heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach brought on by eating or drinking certain foods and beverages

 

Route: oral
Dose:

 

To relieve symptoms: take 1 tablet with water

To prevent symptoms: take 1 tablet with water up to 30 minutes before food/beverage that causes heartburn

Do Not Use:

  • If allergic to cimetidine or other acid reducers

  • With other acid reducers

  • If experiencing:

    • Difficulty or pain swallowing

    • Vomiting blood or having bloody/black stools

Consult a Doctor If You Have:

  • Frequent chest pain, wheezing, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, unexplained weight loss

  • Symptoms persisting over 3 months

  • Chest/shoulder pain with shortness of breath, dizziness, or lightheadedness

  • Kidney or liver disease
